The Philips Minicassette was designed for dictation recorders in 1967. The tape width, 3,81 mm, is the same as in the Compact Cassette. The cassette measures 55 mm x 33,5 mm x 7,5 mm. The tape speed is 2,4 cm/s and the tape duration is 30 minutes.

There is no similar capstan or a pinch roller in a Minicassette recorder, as there is in a Compact Cassette recorder. The tape is advanced by the rotation of the take-up reel. Because of this construction there is some wow in the sound.

The Minicassette was used in dictation recorders, telephone answering machines and as a data cassette.
